Research Abstract |
Main findings of studies supported by Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research are as follows. 1. Pattern related potentials consisted of three components: C1, C2 and C3 with peak latencies of 65-90 msec, 100-120 msec and 130-150 msec. 2. The scalp surface distributions of three components were affected by the retinal locations of the pattern stimuli. These results suggest that the cortical origins of the three components anatomically differ. 3. C1 was independent of the pattern contours, but C2 was influenced significantly by them. These results suggest that C2 reflects the activity of the contour specific process in visual systems. 4. The spatial frequency tuning curve of the pattern related potentials appeared to vary in the retinal locations and its components. Both N165 and P235 induced by the left and right half field stimulation did not show the spatial frequency tuning curve. These results suggest that N165 and P235 are irrelevant the pattern related components. 5. Visual evoked potentials( VEPs) to random patterns depth perception differed from the ordinary pattern VEPs in that morphology. It seems that a serial synthesis of VEPs to pattern stimuli input and VEPs to the depth perception occurs. 6. The space perception of the child develops after three years and comes to the plateau in seven to eight years. But the phenomena of the regression of development occurs temporally in that process.
