Research Abstract |
The purpose of this study is to investigate the structure, the applicability and the effect of an opposition question. The opinions (interpretations or images) elicited from all pupils by a diagnosis question can be classified into two alternatives (disjunctive judgments) opposing each other. The following became clear after the investigation. 1.When used on the following conditions, an opposition question is effective. (1) In the process of examining the truth of the interpretation of words and sentences. (2) The text is both problematic and solvable. (3) Every pupil in a class has the alternatives of an opposition question. 2.Infered from the data, the understanding process of a pupil can be expressed as follows. (1) The opposition question causes argument among pupils in a class. When engaging in the argument, a pupil becomes uncertain of the truth of his intepretation. As a result, conflict occurs in his mind and it motivates him to interpret more truly. (2) With the development of the interpretation, part of the image becomes truer. It influences connections among the parts of the image;therefore, the image changes truer structurally as a whole.
