Research Abstract |
To make clear the phenomena of periodical outbreak of a Diplopoda(Parafaontaria laminata armigere), the dynamics and growth of populations of P. laminata armigera were studied in two forests of larch and Quercus mongolica in Tateshina Mountain in Nagano prefecture. From this study, it became clear as followings; 1. The responce of the metabolic rate of the of P. laminata armigera, which was observed to swarm in in the outbreak years, was high at low temerature and metabolic rate of the adult Diplopoda was less affected by temperature in comparison with that of the lervae. 2. The phenomenon of the outbreak was related closely to the the larch forest from some causes. The swarming og the Diplopoda was considered as the movement from larch forest to Q. mongolica forest to grasslands for high quality food. 3. The reason of one generation maintenance of P. laminata armigera populations was not clearized in this stury. 4. The datum of temperature of environment where P. laminata armigera live were aquisited from July in 1985 to July in 1987 in the two forests in Nagano prefecture.
