Research Abstract

The purpose of this project is to develope a simulating system of three dimensional anatomy of the upper abdomen, especially targeted on sectional anatomy of the liver, by means of a personal computer. The computer we used is NEC 9801E and the program was written in TURBO PASCAL. We input the data of normal human anatomy of the upper abdomen mainly on the basis of CT images. Each organ and each hepatic segment are displayed in different colors. Organs displayed are liver, gallbladder, pancreas, kidneys, aorta, inferior vena cava, hepatic veins, portal vein and splenic vein, and hepatic segments are according to Couinaud's classification. Scanned planes are defined by inputting the angles along X,Y and Z axes. This program has been utilized for education for beginners in ultrasonogrphic examination and also for evaluating location of hepatic tumors. However there still remain several problems in this program i.e. rough matrixes of displayed image, long reconstruction time, troublesomeness in defining scanned planes and anatomical variations, these are limitations of personal computers at present time.
