Research Abstract |
It is the purpose of this research project to establish a quality evaluation method for crude drugs (e.g. ginseng, capillaris, zedoary, ginger), which are important ingredients of Chinese traditional herb formulae, by means of gas liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry. 1) Ginseng: The difference of lipophilic constituents between "white ginseng" and "red ginseng", which were prepared by processing of the same Panax ginseng root, has been clarified by GC-MS analysis. 2) Capillaris: The method for qualitative and quantitative analysis of choleretic principles in capillaris has been established by GC-MS. 3) Zedoary: The essential oil constituents in zedoaries originated in China, Taiwan, and Yakushima (Japan) were analized by GC-MS. It has been found that each essential oil gives a characteristic reconstructed ion current (RIC) chromatogram. 4) Ginger: Many useful findings have been obtained in comparison of GC-MS data for bitter principles of gingers originated in Kohchi Pref., Shizuoka Pref., China, and Vietnam.
