Research Abstract |
1. The obserbation of various factors relating to water balance was performed for the natural broad-leaved forest land (A), the forest land of man-made Hinoki middle-aged stand converted from it (B), and that of the young stand (C) at the foot of Mt. Fuji as the subject of study. 2. The comparative measurement of infiltration capacity and water storage capacity of soil was carried out at many places in the broad-leaved forest land, the cut-over area, and the forest land of needleleaved plantation respectively. 3. The analysis of streamflow before and after the treatment was performed on the basis of inflow watershed where the greater part of natural broad-leaved forest was converted into the needle-leaved plantation. Summarizing above-mentioned result of the study, it is sure that the respective function as to forest hydrology is higher in the natural broad-leaved forest than in the needle-leaved plantation. Cutting and the degree of growth condition participate in the effect on the condition of streamflow in rivers more significant than the difference between broad-leaved and needle-leaved forests.
