Research Abstract |
THIS STUDY WAS AN EXPERIMENTAL STUDY CONDUCTED TO DETERMINE WHETHER URIST, A HYHBRID MATERIAL CONSISTING OF A BONE MORPHOGENETIC PROTEIN (BMP), APATITE (HA) COULD BE USED IN ACTUAL CLICAL APPLICATIONS IN PLACE OF AUTO BONE GRAFT. HA/BMP WAS GRAHT ONTO THE LOWER FEMUR MYOFASCIA OF MICE AND WAS ALSO GRAFTED TO THE SKULL OF RATS. RADIOLOGICAL HISTOLOGICAL OBSERVATION WERE THEN CONDUCTED TO DERTERMINE THE HETEROOSTEOGENSESIS AND OBONE FORMATION. RESULTS SHOWED REMARK ABLE OSTEOSIS AS COMPARED TO THE USE OF HA OR BMP ALONE. ON THE OTHER HAND, REDULTS OF CELL CULTURE TEST TO DETERMINE THE BIOCOMPATI BILITY OF HA, IN WHICH THE % ATTACHED CELLS, CELL GROWTH RATE AND POPULATION DENSITY OF CELLS WERE OBSERVED, SHOWED THAT THE BIOCOMPATIBILITY OF HA IN EACH OF THE ABOVE ITEMS WAS SATISFACTORY. THE ABOVE RESULTS SYGGEST THAT HYBRID BONE MATERIAL OF HA/BMP MAY POSSIBLY BE USEFULL IN CLINICAL APPLICATIONS IN THE FUTURE.
