Research Abstract |
The purpose of this study consists to know how the mentally retarded children communicate with the environement and to establish the method of their education and of their training. For the first, we observed the behaviors with which the normal and the retarded infants fulfill their demands. Secondly, we oberved the troubles associated with the language disorders which the mentally retarded children present. This extra-linguistic symptoms consist the behavior disorders(hyperkinesisi, short attention span, interpersonal relationship ets.), the neuro-motor developmental disorders (clumsiness,oro-facial dyspraxia etc.), the sensory deficits, the development of lateral domonance, learning disorders (consutructional ability, ideo-motor and ideational dyspraxia, right-left orientation, development of rythm etc. ) Thirdly, we presented the battery of developmental neuropsychological tests. The tests included are the test of fine motor coodination, the test of imitation of gestures, the test of copy of geometric figures, the constructional test, the test of lateral domonance, the test of right-left orientation, the test of rhythm etc. Finally, we analysed the relationship betweenn the linguisitic symptoms and the extra-linguistic symptoms. We foud that the development of oro-facial mouvement preceed the development of the speech.
