Research Abstract |
PORPOSE OF THE PRESENT PROJECT IS TO ANALYSE THE STRUCTURE OF ASIAN TRADE IN MANUFACTURED GOODS AND HOW SUCH STRCTURE WILL BE INFLUENCED BY THE CHINESE PARTICIPATION. CHINESE OPEN DOOR POLICY AND ECONOMIC REFORMS SINCE 1979 ARE CHANGING HER ECONOMIC RELATIONSHIP WITH ASIAN COUNTRIES INCLUDING JAPAN. IN OUR PROJECT WE HAVE TRIED TO BUILD AN ANALITICAL MODEL OF CHINESE TRADE THAT CAN BE DEVELOPED INTO QUANTITATIVE MODEL. THE RESEARCH PROJECT HAD PROCEEDED AS FOLLOWS. (1) HEARINGS ON CHINESE DEVELOPMENT AND TRADE FROM EXPERTS. (SOME OF THE RESULTS ARE SUMARIZED IN KEIO ECONOMIC OBSERVATORY OCCASIONAL PAPER NO.4) (2) PREPARING BASIC RESEARCH DATE BASE ON CHINESE ECONMY ESPECIALLY ON TRADE, TRADE POLICY AND CAPITAL INVESTMENT,(PUBLISHED IN KEIO ECONOMIC OBSERVATORY OCCASIONAL PAPER NO.3) (3) CONSTRUCTING AN ANALYTICAL MODEL FOR DEVELOPMENT OF CHINESE MANUFACTURED TRADE. WE FOUND THAT EXPANDING CINESE EXPORTS OF MANUFACTURED GOODS IS PATTICULARLY IMPORTANT IN ORDER TO PROMOTE HER INDUSTRIALIZATION. HOWEVER,SINCE INDUSTRIAL LINKAGES AMONG DIFFERENT SECTORS ARE MORE COMPLICATED IN PRODUCTION PROCESSES OF MANUFACTURED GOODS THAN PRIMARY COMMODITIES, WE NEED TO INCORPORATE INDUSTRIAL STRUCTURE APPROACH TO THE PRECENT ANALYSIS. THE RESULTS OF SUCH ANALYSIS WILL BE PUBLISHED IN FORTHCOMING PUBLICATION TITLED SAZANAMI YOKO ED. "CONTEMPORARY CHINESE ECONMIC STRUCTURE - RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN INDUSTRIALIZATION AND EXPORTS OF MANUFACTURED GOODS" TAGA BOOK PUBLISHING CO.
