Research Abstract

Establishment of virus-free plants, vegetative propagation and acclimatization in garlic and root-promoting treatment of asparagus plantlets cultured in vitro were studied, and the following results were obtained.
Garlic
1. Shoot apexes cultured on an initial medium containing 0.01 mg/1 both of NAA and BA and transferred to a subculture medium containing 0.1 mg/1 NAA and 0.01 mg/1 BA grew vigorously and formed bulblets.
2. Plantlets grown by the method mentioned above were easily acclimatized on rockwool at 20゜C.
3. Virus-free garlic plants were vegetatively propagated by in vitro culture of flower disc cut into 8 explants.
Asparagus
4. Shoots grown from lateral buds rooted effectively by treatment of Rooton (anaphtylacetoamide 0.4 % in mineral powder) at basal parts. Rooting was also promoted by culturing apexes on MS medium containing 0.3 mg/1NAA and 0.1mg/1 BA for 2-3 weeks and transferring to MA medium.
