| Research Abstract |
This study was carried out to investigate the effects of xylene(X), benzene(B), trichloroethylene (TCE), perchloroethylene(PCE) and methylchloroform(MCF) by video-analysis on behavior, especially of feed, drinking and locomotion in mice.
The animals of each exposure group were subjected to daily one-hour exposures to a vapor of solvents at a concentration of 4000 ppm for consecutive 5 days, respectively.
The behavior was recorded continuously with TV camera and video-tape recorder for 8 hours after the cessation of the exposure.
The animals exposed to X, TCE or PCE showed the higher frequency to get in touch with the food than the non-exposed animals and slight increase of time spent there. The animals exposed to MCF delivered only very slight changes of it and the animals exposed to B, no change of it.
With regard to the drinking behavior, PCE showed the effect of the decrease both on the frequency to get in touch with a bottle of water and on the time spent there for drinking. X and MCF had the effect of very slight increase on it and B, no effect.
X, TCE and PCE exhibited the effect of the increase on the time spent outside the nesting box during one hour immediately after the cessation of the exposure. MCF and B had the very slight effect of it.
It was proved that TCE had the most exciting effect on the behavior under these conditions, X, almost the same effect and moreover the depressive effect later, PCE, almost the same effect with X and more depressive in addition, and MCF, the most mild effect.
