Research Abstract |
We measured intramural pressure of the bladder using a pressure transducer embedded betwen bladder mucosa and muscle layers in female anesthetized dogs. Intravesical pressure was recorded simultaneously by comentional transurethral catheter method. Results from the former showed slightly lower values than the latter, but both correlated well in all pressure ranges. Next using this technique we recorded intramural pressure of the bladder in an awake dogs. Bladder pressure changes in a completely physiological state of dogs were recorded on voiding, coughing, defaecating, vomiting, etc. The static pressures in the standing and lying positions were almost the same at about 10 cmH2O and in the sitting position the pressure were about 30 cmH2O. The voiding pressure ranged from 44 to 257 cmH2O (average 141 cmH2O). On voiding, various patterns of pressure curve were observed and in the monophasic pressure curve, which probably showed normal urination, there was a time defference between urine flow and voiding pressure curve. Uroflowmetry clearly showed these time differences. Voiding pressure dropped by intravenous injection of anticholinergic drugs but one hour later it recovered in a normal ranged. The effect on bladder pressure by varieous drugs were studied.
