| Research Abstract |
The aim of this project is to present an architecture of multimedia database management system.
By multimedia databases, we mean a database into which a variety of single media databases such as alpha-numeric databases, figure databases, image databases, and sound databases are integrated so that the users can use the multimedia database without awareing of the difference of media.
Although it has been recognized the necessity and importance of such databases, it has been not clear how to develop multimedia databases and their management systems.
We explored the topic or two years in this project and made it clear the following points:
(1) Definition of media, multimedia data model, multimedia data base,
(2) Object-referred integration method to build multimedia database,
(3) Essential necessity of object-oriented approach,
(4) Presentation of OMEGA (Object-oriented Multimedia database Evironment for General Application),
(5) Object concept, object identity, and basic object manipulation.
