Research Abstract |
Field surveys of the estuary ecosystem in Lake Tanganyika were carried out from August to November, 1986, and completed these surveys in 1987. 1. The difference of the water quality between lake and river was clear in electrical conductivity, hardness of water and silicate content. It may be suggested that the primary production of the lake in dry season is limited by the concentration of phos- phorus and nitrogen as well as by silicate content in water. 2. On the flora of Malagarasi estuary, we found 5 species of emergent plant, more than 5 species of floating and 8 species of submerged plants. 1386 specimens belonging 21 species of cladocera were collected from these estuary.
