Research Abstract |
To examine the effect of geographical isolation to the rate of nucleotide substitutions in molecular evolution, we determined the 5s rRNA sequence of freshwater planarians, Dugesia japonica Ichikawa et Kawakatsu from seven typically isolated palces in Taiwan, based upon the 1984 and 1986 collections. All these sequences determeined in this work were compared with those from four place in Japan and calculated the effect of geographical isolation to the rate of nucleotide substitution. The results indicate that 5s rRNA sequenced from Taiwan and from Japan show reasonable low difference, indicating no typical effect of geographical isolation to the rate of nucleotide substitution.
