Research Abstract |
THE DIVERSITY AND COMPLEXITY OF INDUSTRIAL AND MUNICIPAL WASTES CREATES IDANY PROBLEM IN THE SUIT ABLE TREATMENT OF WASTES AND IN RESOURCE RECOVERY. FOR EXAMPLE, HAZARDOUS CHEMICALS SUCH AS RARE EARTH ELEMENTS AND ORGANIC CHRORINE COMPOUNDS ARE OFTEN USED IN PARTICULAR HIGH-TECH INDUSTRIES, SO THAT ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION SUCH AS GROUND WATER POLLUTION BY ORGANIC CHRORINE COMPOUNDS (TRICHLOROETHYLENE ETC.) OCCURS. THEREFORE THIS RESEARCH WAS PERFORMED. THE MAIN RESEARCH RESULTS ARE AS FOLLOWS. (1)SEVERAL EXPERIMENTS FOR INVESTIGATING THE BEHAVIOR OF WATER AND POLLUTANTS IN A SOLID WASTE BED (COLUMN) OF THE RESIDUAL ASH OF INCINERATED MUNICIPAL WASTES WERE PERFORMED UNDER CONDITIONS SIMULATING ACTUAL CONDITIONS, AND DISCRETE TYPE MODELS WHICH WERE BASICALLY DERIVED FROM THE DIFFERENCE APPROXIMATION OF MASS BALANCE AND RATE EQUATIONS WERE ADOPTED TO SIMULATE THE EXPERIMENTS. (2)SEVERAL EXPERIMENTS FOR INVESTIGATING THE BEHAVIOR OF ORGANIC CHRORINE COMPOUNDS IN A SOIL COLUMN WERE PERFORMED. FUNDAMENTAL INFORMATION CONCERNING MASS TRANSFER IN LANDFILL, SUCH AS ADSORPTION CHARACTERISTICS WAS OBTAINED. (3)BIODEGRADABILITY, ESPECIALLY OF LEACHATE FROM INCINERATION ASH LANDFILL SITES, WAS INVESTIGATED BY ANALYZING WATER QUALITY USING INDEXES SUCH AS BOD AND COD. THE FUNDAMENTAL INFORMATION FOR SELECTING A PROCESS WHICH IS SUITABLE FOR LEACHATE TREATMENT WAS OBTAINED.
