Research Abstract

The Present study aimed to understand crystallographically the occurrence of the optical memory property of the alloys.
1. Consideration on crystallographic prerequests showing optical memory property
Some methods by which an optical property is shown in the alloys are proposed; (i) two stable phases at high and low temperatures, and an additional unstable phase must be used, (ii) point defects like thermal vacancies must be used, and (ill) plastically introduced point defects must be used.
2. Processing and optical memory property in Zn-Ag alloy
Thin foils of Zn-Ag alloy were prepared by evaporation technique. Crystal structure and optical property of as-deposed and heat-treated thin foils were examine by X-ray diffraction and optical spectroscopy and then correlated. It was shown that optical property was to sensitive alloy composition and heat-treatment.
3. Optical property of B2-type Intermetallic compounds
Optical property for two alloys of NiAl and CoAl with B2 structure was measured. In both alloys, this property was shown to be sensitive to alloy composition and heat-treatment.
