Clinical manifestations associated with human parvovirus B19 in Japan were investigated, because no examination had been done except erythema infectiosum. 1. The data clearly showed that the virus caused febrile illness, unspecified exanthematous disease, vascular purpura, petechial rash, polyarthritis, aplastic crisis in patient with hemolytic anemias, acute or persistent anemia in patient under immunosuppressive state and fetal disorders. 2. Human parvovirus B19 DNA was detected in sera of children with erythema infectiosum in 1968, which might be the oldest found in history of the virus, and absolute confirmation of the cause of erythema infectiosum. 3. Thirty one cases of aplastic crisis were revealed in association with the virus in allover Japan, back to March 1981, Osaka. Underlying diseases were hereditary spherocytosis 30 and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency 1, which was the first observation in the world. 4. Six death cases of nonimmunologic hydrops fetalis were due to the B19 infection in Fukuoka, Kitakyushu, Beppu and Osaka. At least 3 of 15,000 live birth were killed with the virus during pregnancy in Fukuoka city. One abortion was confirmed due to the virus infection. 5.
