Research Abstract |
The effect of total parenteral nutrition (TPN) with arginine imbalanced solution containing enriched branched chain amino acids(TEO-10) on the growth of Yoshida sarcoma was examined in tumor-bearing Donryu rats. Arginine contents in TEO-10, and AI-I,II and III were 1,050g/dl, 3,050g/dl, 5,000g/dl, and 7,000g/dl, respectively. The rats were infused for 8 days via TPN route with each arginine imbalanced solution and then sacrificed. The body weight gain in the AI-II group was better than those in the TEO-10, AI-I and III groups. The tumor growth was also significantly suppressed in the AI-II group. The arginine and ornithine concentrations in the serum, urine and tumor tissue in the AI groups were significantly higher than that in the TEO-10 group. These results suggest that TPN with AI-II solution, which is equivalent to 5 % arginine imbalanced solution, has significant inhibitory effects on the growth of Yoshida sarcoma.
