Research Abstract |
In Pedodontic clinic, the aim is to bring about the normal growth of dentition. There has been an increasing need for comprehensive examination and diagnosis for child patient that are based on the functional apset of information in addition to the morphological one. For adult patients, the examination on the mandibular movement or the chewing efficiency has been already practiced, but for child patients, especially younger patients with deciduous dentition, it has been so much burden to them, against their mental and physical condition, to apply the apparatus for adults to children that we can not obtain any correct data concerning children. So the invention of apparatus and the establishment of clinical examination system for young child patient has long been desired. Our project team started inventing the apparatus for young children, which can be used after 3 years of age, and have efforted to make the original apparatus and improved it many times. Now, we have been able to complete the apparatus carrying out our purpose, and to analyze the mandibular movement of normal children with deciduous dentition, and, moreover, also to diagnose child patients functionally before and after treatment who have anomalies about their dentition, interocclusal relation and temporomandibular joint. We are also able to record and to analyze the electromyogrm of masticatory muscles, and now, we could establish the examination system of stomatognathic function of young children. There are many problems concerning the system yet, but we have obtained a large amount of information beyond expectation as to the clinical examination and diagnosis of young child patients.
