Research Abstract |
Purpose of the project is to investigate the tectonic processes active in the generation of new oceanic crust along a mid-oceanic ridge by using Electro-magnetic technique. For the purpose, we deployed 12 sea floor apparatus along a transect perpendicular to the axis of the Juan de Fuca Ridge to observe the variations of the electric and magnetic fields The apparatus were installed at sea floor in July, 1989, and were successfully recovered in November, 1989. This project is a multi-institutional project including Canada, Japan and Australia. The recovered records of the variations of the electromagnetic fields with an duration of about four months have been investigated to obtain the electrical conductivity structure beneath the Juan de Fuca Ridge.
