Research Abstract |
The emulsion-counter hybrid apparatus was exposed to high energy ion beams at CERN to study phase transition of quark matter which was expected to occur in the high energy ion-nucleus central collisions. Till now, the exposures to 200 GeV ^<16>O, ^<32>S, and 200 GeV/c proton beams were carried out. Analysis of the events recorded in the nuclear emulsion targets have been carried out using an automated measuring microscope system which was developed in Nagoya University. During January 9 - 14, 1989, European and Japanese collaboration group meet-ing was held at Nagoya to summarize the current collaboration results. Publication of five papers, including the one titled "The production of charmed particles in high-energy ^<16>O-emulsion central interactions ", is being prepared. A future plan to study central collisions of much heavier ions such as Pb was also discussed in the collaboration meeting.
