Research Abstract |
IFN-gamma is known one of the macrophage activating factors. We examined the effect of IFN-gamma on murine peritoneal macrophages by using various parameters. The results were as follows; 1. IFN-gamma did not increase the membrane permeability, Ca^<2+> concentration, diacetylglyceride, neutral lipid and proteinkinase C activity in the cells. 2. IFN-gamma did not affect any pH and Na^+ concentration in the cells. 3. IFN-gamma suppressed the activity of adenylcyclase in the cells. 4. IFN-gamma increased the host resistance against Salmonella- and Legionella pneumophila. Simultaneous administration of IFN-gamma and TNF-alpha into mice enhanced more resistance than that of either one.
