Research Abstract

This research has established a rapid analytical method by the Energy-Disparsive Fluorescence Spectrometry, for chemical components of fine-grained sedimentary rocks. The established method is applicable with enough accuracy to major components except magnesium.
About 500 sedimentary rocks of Neogene age which were obtained from drill holes carried at the Yakumo Area, Hokkaido, and the Hokuroku Kuroko-minerization Area, Akita, were analyzed by this method. The chemical features of these two sedimentary sequences are as follows.
(1) A large part of fine-grained materials in both sedimentary sequences were probably derived from volcanogenic materials by simultaneous igneous activities.
(2) The SiO_2/Al_2O_3 values indicate that a small amount of them at basal part may have been derived from weathering crust, while those at upperpart involve some amounts of siliceous micro-skeletons.
(3) Around Kuroko- and vein-type mineral deposits, Fe and K were enriched, while Ca and Na were leached from sedimentary sequences by hydrothermal activities.
