| Research Abstract |
Anti-phospholipid syndrome was defined as both serological feature such as high titer of anti-phospholipid antibodies (titer of lgG anti-cardiolipin antibody or lgG anti-phosphatidylserine antibody more than 20 u/ml) and clinical features such as recurrent thrombosis and spontaneous abortion.
Anti-phospholipid syndrome could be found in 18 (13%) out of 140 patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), 2 (4%) out of 48 patients with SLE-systemic sclerosis (SSc) overlap syndrome (OL), and 4 (8%) out of 52 patinets with unclassified connective tissue disease (UCTD). Patients with anti-phospholipid syndrome in SLE and SLE-SSc OL were regarded as secondary anti-phospholipid syndrome, and patients with this syndrome in UCTD were regarded as primary anti-phospholipid syndrome.
Patients with primary anti-phospholipid syndrome and secondary anti-phospholipid syndrome in SLE could be atypical SLE from the point of clinical manifestations. Moreover, the cross-reactivity between anti-phospholipid anti-bodies and anti-DNA antibodies could not be found at the point of serological characteristics. On the other hand, different clinical features were shown between patients with anti-phospholipid syndrome in SLE and this syndrome in SLE-SSC OL.
These date suggested that the anti-phospholipid syndrome could be divided into several subsets.
