Research Abstract |
(1) Compiling Materials in Database For the past two years we have compiled all the materials we had already gathered before our research began and the ones we collected anew, into a database file using a database management program, and stored it in the hard disk we purchased so that anyone could get access to it. The aim of our research couldn't be achieved without this process and we hope this will make our research very successful. We have already finished compiling in our database file, two periodicals (from the first issue until the latest one) and several books which are the fundamental materials for Zuolian (The League of Left-Wing Writers) study, such as, "Xin Wenxue Shiliao(Historical Materials of New Literature)" (1694 items), "Wenyi Ziliao Congkan(Collected Literary Materials of Modern Chinese Literature)"(451 items), and Zuolian Huiyi Lu(Memoirs of Zuolian), and also compiled four bibliographies of published works of writers and publications related to Zuolian, such as "A

Bibliography of Hufeng's Works"(430 items), "A Bibliography of Literature Related to Zuolian"(149 items), so that any information concerning those materials would be easily searched. In addition to this, we are now working on fundamental materials such as "Materials for Luxun Study" (156 items), and "A Biographical Sketch of Lou Shlyi"(47 items), along with biographical sketches of other people involved in Zuolian, and also making "A Chronicle or Foreign Students Movement"(including notes and commentaries, 279 items), which focuses on the Tokyo Zuolian (Tokyo Branch of Zuolian) in the midst of the Foreign Students Movement in the thirties. (2) Collecting and Concentrating Related Materials We went to Tenri university and Kyoto University to copy various and valuable materials which each one of them is in possession of("Wenyi Zazhi(Literary Magazine)," et al.) and concentrated them at Saitania University, so that we think the foundation for the future Zuolian study has been laid and more opportunities for a lot of scholars to get access to them will be provided. We will do as best we can for anyone interested in doing research on these materials. (3) Publishing Our Report We have issued "Zuolian Study(Saren Kenkyu)" (the first issue), a collection of papers, in which appear; the first bibliography of literature related to Zuolian, and a paper which deals, despite the scarcity of the fundamental materials in that field, with the prehistory of the formation of Tokyo Zuolian. We have distributed it to other institutions and individual scholars both in Japan and abroad, including Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and Beijing University. We are now editing the second issue of "Zuolian Study(Saren Kenkyu)." The papers we have published in the academic journals are as follows. Less
