Research Abstract |
When the winter thundercloud approaches some steel-towers on transmission line, we can consider the lightning flashes generated in the space between negatively charged cloud and several steel-towers. And so, we discussed the lightning model using the plane to two rod electrodes geometry. The plane to two rod electrodes geometry subjected to a negative d.c.voltage with a constant rise rate of 5 KV/s. The plane electrode with lm in diameter is Rogowski type electrode and the rod electrode is round off as a hemi-spherical electrode. We defined that H is the length from the plane to each rod electrodes and D is the distance between two rod electrodes. We defined as II shape channel when two spark channels occurred in the space between the plane and two rod electrodes, and defined as h shape channel when two spark channels connected in the gap. In case of the rod diameter of 4mm, II shape channel occurred when the ratio of D/H is greater than 1.2, and h shape channel occurred for the region of smaller ratio of D/H. In case of the rod diameter of 20mm, II shape channel occurred when the ratio of D/H is greater than 2, and h shape channel occurred for the region of smaller ratio of D/H. The breakdown in the gap with relatively small rod diameter occurs in the presence of the steady corona discharge, and then the concurrent discharge occurs in the gap between the plane and two rod electrodes. On the other hand, the breakdown gap with relatively large rod in diameter occurs in the absence of sustained corona discharge. And then, the concurrent discharge occurs only in the gap with the small distance of two rod electrodes.
