Research Abstract

Traditional medicine and its science have a long history. People are very experienced in using fungi as medicine. Fungi which were recognized as the important components of traditional herbal drugs in ancient times like Poria cocos, Polyporus umbellatus, Treamella fuciformis etc. Have still been used extensively up to the present in China and Japan, while new fungus medicines are being discovered continually.
But the taxonomy of higher fungi is behind than that of plants, the collection of higher fuguses is very difficult in the field, the yield of extracts from fuguses is very low than that of plants. So the studies of constituents of higher fuguses are behind than that of plants.
We have been an interest about the constituents of higher fuguses by reason of above mention. Especially, Gasteromycetes are unique higher fungi because they have a gleba in the sexless peridium. The constituents of Gasteromycetes are only known about Lycoperdon pyriforme, L. parlatum, Calvatia cramiformi and … More Pisolithus tinctorius. We have been studying about the constituents of Gasteromycetes. We could obtain the following results in this research project.
1) Astraeus hygrometricus is used in Chinese folk medicine and has been used as a haemastatic. Three new lanostane triterpenes, as well as two known steroids, were isolated from A. hygronetricus. The new compounds were established by chemical and spectroscopic means.
2) Two new triterpenes were isolated from Pisolithus tinctoricus and these structures were established by spectroscopic means.
3) Lasiosphaera nipponica is used in Japanese and Chinese folk medicine as a haemastatic. New polyoxyg enated ergosterol derivative, as well as three known steroids were isolated from this fungi. The structure of the new steroid was established by chemical and spectoroscopic means.
4) Three new aromatic compounds, as well as three known steroids, two known aromatic compounds were isolated from calvatia ramiformis. The structures of these compounds were established by chemical and spectroscopic means. The new aromatic compounds have a unique structures in the natural compounds. Less
