ワランゴ樹木年輪の同位体分析による高精度古環境復元

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本採択課題研究における最も大きな研究成果は、ワランゴ樹木年輪で高精度年代決定が可能となり，同位体比変動に環境変化の履歴が確かに保存されていることが明らかになった点である。現生樹木年輪の詳細な組織構造解析から、乾燥地域のワランゴに対する年輪年代学アプローチが極めて困難であることが示された。特に、樹齢のある資料については著しい樹木成長の低下が見られ、辺材付近には不斉で緻密な成長輪が多数出現する。そこで本研究では、樹木年輪資料を細分化し、安定同位体比測定による年輪同定を試みた。得られた安定同位体比変動は成長輪が緻密な部分を除き、非常に明瞭な周期性が見られ、14C年代測定によって1つの周期が1年であることが確かめることができた。年輪の幅や密度からは読み取ることが困難だった季節性の応答が、安定同位体から明示できたことは、当該樹種から環境情報の抽出が可能であることを意味しており、年輪の同定が高精度年代決定（14Cウィグルマッチング）を実用可能とする。また、現生樹木年輪の基礎研究を基に遺跡出土古材への応用も展開しており、パラカス期からイカ期に年代付けされる古材の安定同位体比測定が実施された。
今後，本研究によって体系化されたワランゴ樹木年輪による高精度年代決定と古環境復元をより広範囲の時期に拡大し，連続した高時間分解能環境復元を実施することで，ナスカ地域における環境復元の様相がより明確になると期待している。
