Outline of Annual Research Achievements

様々な物性がnmスケールで異常性を示すことが知られているが、ガラス状高分子物質の変形についても異常性の発現が予想される。しかしながら、これに関する論文はほとんど見当たらない。ナノ微粒子に力を作用させることが容易ではない(ナノ微粒子を２枚のプレートに挟んで圧縮応力を印加するような実験は不可能)ためである。その理由は、①nmスケールの大きさが均一な微粒子を作製できないこと、②用いるべきプレートがnmスケールで平滑であること、③圧縮過程での変位量をnmオーダーで正確に求める（応力－ひずみ曲線を得るために要求される）ことが不可能だからである。ゴム状高分子母相中にガラス状微粒子をちりばめたような分散系試料を作製し、これを延伸する実験を行えば②と③の問題は回避可能であるが、ガラス状微粒子と母相との界面の剥離が起きないように微粒子の表面に高分子鎖を直接化学結合したような構造が求められる。微粒子表面に高分子鎖をグラフトするような合成手法は可能ではあるが、上記①の問題が未解決のまま残る。POSS骨格を有するような元素ブロックデンドリマー型の有機／無機ハイブリッド粒子はこのような研究を行うために適している。また、ブロック共重合体が自発的に形成する球状ミクロ相分離構造も候補の一つである。この球状構造は数nm程度の半径を有する均一な超微粒子と見なすことができ、例えばポリスチレンをマイナー成分に、ポリエチレンブチレンをメジャー成分として有するようなSEBSトリブロック共重合体を用いれば、上述のような理想的な状態を創り出すことができる。トリブロック共重合体フィルムを5倍に延伸した状態で保持し、時分割２次元小角X線散乱測定を行った。その結果、時間が経過するにつれてガラス球がしだいに変形していくことがわかった。このことから、ガラス球が室温でも変形可能であることが結論づけられた。
