Outline of Annual Research Achievements

β-C70開口体では、開口部サイズが充分に大きいため、内部に水分子を挿入することが可能である。一方、α-C70開口体では、開口部の大きさがβ体よりも小さく、水の内部への導入が不可能であることが明らかとなった。そこで、α-C70開口体に対してのHF分子の挿入反応を検討した。HFはH2Oよりも体積が小さいと考えられ、理論計算においてもその挿入に必要な活性化エネルギーはH2Oより小さいことが示された。そのため、開口部は小さいがより高い収率で得られるα-13員環開口体がHFの挿入には最適である。そこで、HF-Pyridine試薬をHF源として9,000気圧120 °Cの条件下で挿入反応が検討された。その結果、予想したHFを一分子内包したものに加えて、H2O-HF錯体とH2Oを内包した開口体がそれぞれ得られることが明らかとなった。一方で、HF-Pyridineを加えない条件では、やはり水分子の内包はほとんど確認されなかったことから、HFがH2Oの内包に影響を与えていることが明らかとなった。すなわち、最初に内包されたHF分子が、内側からの相互作用により、外部に存在する水分子の挿入に必要な活性化エネルギーを低下させていると示唆された。その後、二段階の反応により開口部を完全に閉じることで、HF@C70、(H2O-HF)@C70、H2O@C70がそれぞれ合成された。(H2O-HF)@C70の構造は単結晶X線構造解析とNMR測定により決定され、HFが水素結合のプロトンドナーであることが示された。また、二つの分子を内包することによって、C70ケージが膨らんでいることも明らかにされた。さらに、140 °Cの高温においてHFとH2Oの1H NMRのシグナルが変化しなかったことから、ケージ内部ではプロトンの交換が起きないことが明らかとされた。
