Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究では層状物質同士のファンデルワールス界面におけるスピン物性の開拓を目指して研究を行った。研究開始当初においては、強磁性を示す金属の層状物質の存在は知られておらず、このため強磁性層状物質と異種材料間のファンデルワールス界面を通したスピン依存伝導は全く未開拓の分野であった。我々は劈開可能な強磁性層状物質の候補として、遷移金属をインターカーレートしたTaS2というこれまでほとんど研究例のなかった材料に注目し、この材料を用いたスピン機能素子の作製を行った。この研究の成果として以下の成果を得た。
1) FeTaS2/FeTaS2 及びCrTaS2/FeTaS2ファンデルワールス接合の作製に成功。
2)ファンデルワールス接合におけるトンネル磁気抵抗効果の観測。
研究開始当初、インターカーレートしたTaS2の表面は酸化しやすく不安定であるという問題があった。我々は乾式の転写法及び熱処理を一切省いたデバイス作製技術を開発し、高品質なFeTaS2/FeTaS2 及びCrTaS2/FeTaS2という2種類のファンデルワールスヘテロ構造の作製に成功した。ここでFeTaS2及びCrTaS2はいずれも強磁性層状物質である。作製した素子において低温でトンネル磁気抵抗効果の観測に成功した。本成果は強磁性層状物質のファンデルワールス接合においてトンネル磁気抵抗効果を観測した初めての例である。さらにFeTaS2/FeTaS2 接合においては最大で8%程度であったトンネル磁気抵抗効果を、CrTaS2/FeTaS2においては15%程度まで向上させた。これは層状物質とスピントロニクスの融合という新分野の開拓につながる成果であると考えている。
