Outline of Annual Research Achievements

ガスセンサは工業原料や排気ガスに含まれるガスの検知に広く用いられており、近年では、環境エネルギー分野での高性能ガスセンサの重要性が増している。半導体型のガスセンサでのドーピングによるセンサ特性の向上は、センシング材料表面に特有の活性サイトが出現することで、この電気抵抗変化が大きくなる（又は、小さくなる）結果である。したがって、センシング材料の開発においては、そのような活性サイトを有する表面（ここでは活性表面と呼ぶ）の原子配列を同定することは極めて重要である。
代表研究者らはこれまでに、ドーピングと表面偏析の組み合わせを新たな活性表面の構築法として着目し、その原子配列に関して低速イオン散乱分光（LEIS）を用いて解析してきた。その結果、タングステンドープ酸化亜鉛（W-ZnO）表面が優れたガスセンシング特性を有することが見出された。そこでWドーピングの役割を解明するために、Wドーパントの局所構造を同定することを目的とした二次元光電子分光実験を行い、W-ZnO最表面が酸素面で終端していることや、表面に偏析したWが第二層目のZn置換サイトに位置していることを明らかにしてきた。光電子回折により同定されたこのW-ZnO表面構造モデルは、LEISから別途同定されたモデルと一致する。この結果を踏まえ平成２８年度は、二次元光電子分光によるガス吸着構造解析への展開を見据え、インハウス実験によるガス吸着構造解析に関する予備検討と、ZnO各結晶面のガスセンサ特性に関する検討を進めた。その結果、飛行時間型２次イオン質量分析／LEIS／昇温脱離分析の融合装置を新たに開発し、その運用を開始した。また成長方位を制御したZnO薄膜の合成に成功し、表面原子配列とガスセンサ特性との関係に関する知見を得た。
