In JFY2017, a full prototype optical system for a new non-destructive beam profile monitor for the J-PARC neutrino extraction beamline was built.Mechanical structures for installing and aligning the prototype optical system in the beamline were fabricated. A procedure for alignment of the optical system was developed, and the full optical system was installed in the J-PARC neutrino beamline for testing in-situ. Various data were taken in order to fully characterize the installed optical system. Two light detection options are still under consideration for the final profile monitor : either an image intensifier coupled to a CID camera (which has better resolution and possibly radiation hardness), or optical fibers coupled to MPPC photo sensors (which are faster and may be able to measure backgrounds due to ion drift). Various parts required for coupling either optical sensor option to the finished optical system were also prepared, fabricated, and tested. Readout systems were also prepared for both optical sensor options.Based on the results of this research project, both optical sensor options will continue to be studied for use in the final monitor. Because the beam profile monitor will have 2 readout arms (to measure the horizontal and vertical profiles), one sensor option may be used in each arm.
