Outline of Annual Research Achievements

当初、本研究は、生体をはじめとする軽元素試料の微細構造を非破壊で撮影する、X線位相コントラストイメージングの一手法、X線タルボ干渉計の性能向上を目的にしていた。X線検出器としてSOIピクセル検出器を用いて、X線光子ごとのエネルギー計測を高い位置分解能で実施、従来使用されてきたG2格子を不要にし、かつ、SN比を向上させることをねらった。しかし、同じシステムが、X線天体の超高解像度の撮像にも応用できることを見出し、多重像X線干渉計という新たな原理の観測装置の発明につながった。この原理提案が、本研究の最大の成果のひとつである。
この原理の実証実験は、当初、SOIピクセル検出器を使用してはじめ、4.5倍の拡大撮影でX線干渉縞の検出に成功した。しかし、ピクセルサイズ30ミクロンでは、平行光の等倍撮影はできない。この段階で、我々は、可視光用の微小ピクセルサイズ(4.25ミクロン）CMOSピクセル検出器に着目、これをX線検出に流用することを試した。結果として、常温大気中で230eV程度のエネルギー分解能でX線検出できることがわかり、最終的には、放射光施設の実験で、平行光に対してサブ秒角の角度分解能でX線像を検出することに成功した。これは、従来のX線反射鏡を使った観測装置の性能を、はるかに簡単な構成で実現できることを示したばかりでなく、将来的には反射鏡では見通しのない、0.01秒角の性能を実現できる道をきりひらいたことになる。
さらに、従来のX線ピクセル検出器が-100度程度に冷却する必要があり、一部の専門家しか使用することは難しかったことに対して、可視光用CMOSピクセル検出器にX線検出の実証は、研究用途にとどまらず、社会的、工業的にもきわめて広い応用範囲が期待される。
