Outline of Annual Research Achievements

強相関4f不完全殻が物性に重要な影響を与える希土類化合物において、結晶場分裂によって生じ局在多極子の起源となりうる異方的4f電荷分布=軌道対称性の直接的な決定が可能な角度分解内殻光電子線二色性を我々は開発しつつあるが、本研究課題ではこれまで適用できた単結晶希土類Yb化合物を超えて他の希土類にも拡張し、多極子活性軌道が基底状態として有力な系及び関連する強相関4f電子系に対して測定し、基底/励起状態における軌道対称性を実際に直接決定する手法にまで昇華させるとともに多くの希土類電子系の基底状態対称性を明らかにすることを目的としている。H29年度には、複数の立方晶Pr化合物に対して測定に成功し、PrB6はΓ5対称性を、PrIr2Zn20はΓ3対称性を反映した線二色性および角度依存性を観測し、学術論文に発表した。なお、この研究は新学術領域における異なる班との共同研究であり分野横断した連携研究と言える。さらには正方晶SmCu2Si2においても(001)面内での4f軌道の方向を特定することに成功し、本手法がSm3+系においても有効であることを実証した。また、共同研究により
・α, β-YbAlB4にも本手法を適用して両者とも結晶場基底状態がJz=±5/2状態に近いことが判明
・立方晶ErCo2にも本手法を適用してEr3+系においても線二色性が観測されると共にEr3+ 4f状態の対称性についても知見を得た
等の成果をあげた。後者については学術論文として発表した。これらの成果から本研究課題を通じて角度分解内殻光電子線二色性がCe, Pr, Sm, Er, Yb系といった幅広い希土類化合物で適用可能なことを実証し本手法の確立に一定の進展があったといえる。
