Outline of Annual Research Achievements

二酸化炭素の増大の結果、対流圏では温暖化が進行する一方で、上層大気領域(中間圏・熱圏)では寒冷化が生じている。中間圏の雲である夜光雲の増加は、この上層大気の寒冷化の証拠の一つと考えられている。中間圏のH2Oは、夜光雲の発生に関わるとともに、酸化水素(HOx)の供給源ともなっている。また、太陽プロトン現象などに代表される高エネルギー粒子の降り込みによっても、中間圏のHOxが大きく変動することが知られている。さらに、中間圏・下部熱圏では、下層大気起源の大気波動によって、風速の増減や乱流拡散による物質輸送が生じていると考えられ、中間圏・下部熱圏でのH2OやHOxは様々な時空間構造を持つものと推測される。HOxは、中間圏・上部成層圏においてオゾン破壊に寄与する物質であることからも、H2OやHOxの変動のほか、熱圏・中間圏・成層圏大気におけるこれら微量成分の役割を理解する必要がある。
本研究は、全大気領域を包含する大気大循環モデル(General Circulation Model: GCM) 等に組み込むための中間圏・下部熱圏H2O・HOx光化学モデルの開発を目的に実施された。特に、太陽活動変化や高エネルギー粒子の降り込みがあった際のHOxや関連する大気微量成分(NOなど)の変動を調べることが重要な研究課題である。
本研究の主な成果は以下のとおりである。1) 100 keV-1 MeVのエネルギーをもつ降下電子・プロトンによる大気電離率の計算コードを作成し、様々なエネルギーを持つ降下粒子の侵入高度推定を可能とした。また、ISレーダーによる電離圏観測との比較を行い、昼側電離圏において数100~ 1MeVのエネルギーをもった降下電子の流入を見出した。2) 1次元モデルによる計算から、乱流拡散、降下粒子、太陽紫外線による大気微量成分の変動を推定した。
