Outline of Annual Research Achievements

VIN3 is a chromatin modifier best characterizedfor its role in the vernalization pathway. The epigenetic regulation of VIN3 during coldalso offers a unique opportunity to study eukaryotic gene regulation in the chromatin context because multiple chromatin regulators operate at VIN3 locus. In this project, progress was made in understanding the regulatory mechanisms by chromatin modifying system Polycomb/Trithorax, depositing the repressive H3K27me3 (via action of PRC2 and or PRC1) based on the chromatin dynamics during primig by cold. Also, a candidate gene approach identified candidates upstream or downstream VIN3 in the cold priming response.
