Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究課題の目標は,骨格筋を用いた呼吸機能解析に応用可能な,胸腹部の骨格筋の複合認識技術の開発を行うことである.胸腹部の骨格筋について,筋線維の走行に基づく骨格筋の形状モデルを構築し,支配神経に基づく呼吸機能の複合解析を画像工学的アプローチにより実現することを目指す.ここでは,連携研究者および新学術領域内の研究班と連携し,骨格筋の画像認識に基づく呼吸筋の解析技術の開発を行った.
前年度までに取り組んだ呼吸筋に関する認識手法の構築と呼吸器疾患に関連する筋の自動認識について,前年度は胸鎖乳突筋と肋間筋の2つの呼吸筋のみであった.最終年度の成果は,呼吸器疾患の一つであるCOPD(慢性閉塞性肺疾患)とその予後の関連が指摘されている脊柱起立筋について重点的に認識手法の構築に取り組んだ.具体的には,機械学習の手法であるRandom Forest法を改良した,Iterative Random Forest法を提案し,脊柱起立筋を3Dボリュームとして平均一致率93%(Dice値)で自動認識可能とした.また,この成果から,機械学習の手法が従来のハンドクラフト特徴量ベースの骨格筋認識で苦手とされていた大型で複雑な形状の筋に対して高精度な認識を実現したことから,計画班と連携し,深層学習(FCN-8s)を用いた脊柱起立筋のセグメンテーションを行い,Iterative Random Forest法とその精度を比較した.さらに,呼吸筋の機能解析をより多元的な解析にするためには,筋のボリュームだけでは不十分であると考え,筋の付着部位である,起始・停止を筋と同時に自動認識する手法を提案した.
