Outline of Annual Research Achievements

断層強度が時間の経過とともに増加する摩擦ヒーリング効果は、地震サイクルにおける断層強度の回復に重要な役割を果たすと考えられる。摩擦ヒーリング効果の起源は、断層面の真実接触面積が増加するためと解釈されることが多い。上部地殻を構成する鉱物の一つである石英は、高温・含水下で摩擦ヒーリング効果が大きくなるが、これは圧力溶解クリープが活性となり、接触面積の増加が加速されたためと解釈されている。この解釈を定量的に検証するためには、圧力溶解クリープによる真実接触面積の増加速度を定量的に見積もる必要がある。そこで平成30年度は、圧力溶解クリープによる接触面積の増加によって、摩擦ヒーリング効果を定量的に説明できるかを詳細に検証した。
ある時間静止した際の摩擦強度の回復量Δτ (MPa)が、増加した真実接触面積ΔAr (m2)に比例すると仮定すると、ΔτはΔτ = (ΔA/A0)×Cによって表される。ここでA0は真実接触面積の初期値、Cは凝着力をそれぞれ表す。ΔAは、圧力溶解クリープの速度則を使い、石英粒子どうしの接触面積が圧力溶解クリープによってどのように時間変化するかを計算することで決定した。速度則を適用する際には、石英粒界水中の拡散係数が必要となるが、本研究では平成29年度に分子動力学(MD)計算から見積もった値を用いた。計算された摩擦強度の回復量は、C = 1-27 MPaを使うことで、幅広い温度範囲(100-927℃)における断層強度回復挙動を概ね再現できることが分かった。
