Outline of Annual Research Achievements

100 nm 程度の波長領域の中性子を超冷中性子と言う。地球重力場の下で束縛することができ、その存在確立分布には、数ミクロンオーダーの特徴的な変調構造がある。本研究課題は、この量子束縛状態の変調構造と干渉項の振動現象を同時に計測することで、量子論の枠組みにおける弱い等価原理の検証を行うことを目的とする。量子論の枠組みにおける検証実験は、これまであまり例が無い。そのため、古くから行われてきた Eotvos パラメータによる等価原理の破れに関する議論と相補的な検証実験になると考える。

本研究課題において、高速応答を可能とする中性子イメージングセンサーの開発を行ってきた。Double SOI 技術を応用することで回路間の干渉性を抑制することを目指し、それに特化した半導体製造プロセスの高度化と効率化を進めてきた。当該年度においては 10 mm x 15 mm の大面積イメージングセンサーの製作に成功するまで進めることができた。同時に、Single SOI 技術による初段回路一体型の半導体センサーに中性子変換膜を追加し、中性子への感度を持たせるための製造技術開発を進めてきた。中性子イメージングセンサーを、高エネルギー加速器研究機構の熱中性子、京大複合原子力研究所の研究炉やJ-PARC 物質・生命科学実験施設による熱中性子を用いて照射試験を行った。シグナルクラスタ形状からγ線イベントや電子線イベントなどから分別手法を開発し、空間分解能の評価を行ったところ、空間分解能の上限として 4 ミクロン程度が実現されていることを確認した。これらの結果は国際シンポシウムで報告し、Nuclear Instruments and Methods A への出版が確定している。他、等価原理検証実験の設計シミュレーションを進め、中性子ガイドなど主要なコンポーネントの製作を進めた。
