Outline of Annual Research Achievements

周期的に発生されるとされる測地学的スロースリップイベントに対して、地震学的に観測されるスロー地震(超低周波地震・低周波微動)の発生間隔分布や振幅分布は自明ではない。本年度は、昨年度得られた超低周波地震の特徴的なサイズ(マグニチュード)分布について断層長や破壊伝播速度、滑り量など震源パラメータとの対応関係を検討し、単純なモデルを構築した。サイズ分布を不確定性を議論し、なおかつ、より詳細な震源パラメータを求めるため、臨時観測記録の収集と解析手法の改良を行い、先行研究よりも小さなマグニチュード3前後の超低周波地震を多く検出することに成功した。さらには、震源パラメータの中でも特に重要となる震源時間関数を明らかにするために追加解析を行い、長周期より振幅が大きいすなわち震源時間が100秒より長いことなどを示した。また、解析領域を西南日本だけでなく東北沖の日本海溝付近や米北西部のCascadia地方に拡大した。この結果、振幅分布の地域性は同じ海溝沿いでも存在することが判明し、プレート境界の曲率など様々な要因が影響していることが示唆された。発生間隔についてより統計的な解釈を行うため、ニュージーランドの数理統計学の研究者との共同研究を開始した。隠れマルコフモデルを用いた解析手法を導入し、主観的に得られている低周波微動のクラスタによる発生間隔の違いなどを検証した。これらの結果を国際学会などで発表したほか、国際学術誌への投稿準備を行った。
