Outline of Annual Research Achievements

アリの行動を長時間かつ長期間観察し続けるため，行動の自動トラッキング技術の開発を行ってきた. アリの背中に二次元バー コードを貼り付けて，撮影画像から行動を追跡する技術がほぼ確立できた．子育て業務があるときとないとき，など社会状況に応じてワーカーの行動パターンが臨機応変 に変わることや，日齢が同じであっても個体間で行動の差異があり，その違いは数日を経ても一貫した行動傾向として保持されていることが明らかになった．
トゲオオハリアリでは女王とワーカーが巣内の順位によって明瞭な行動分化をとげる．つまり社会的経験がその後の行動・生理パターンを大きく方向づける．羽 化してから7日間以内の短いスケールで，行動発達に伴う遺伝子発現の変化をRNAseqで調べ，インスリン経路などの代謝系因子(昆虫では脳がインスリンを放出する器官のひとつ)やドーパミン経路因子が，行動差と関連していることを明らかにし，より高齢段階まで日齢を追った行動差の解析へと進めている． さらに精緻なトランスクリプトーム解析や，エピゲノム解析への拡張を図るため，トゲオオハリアリ(Diacamma sp.)のゲノム配列解析に着手し，ヒトやサルなど向けに開発された，安価に高精度のゲノムシーケンスができる10xGenomics社のChromiumシステムを用いて，トゲオオハリアリゲノムの解読を行い，生物情報学的な配列整理や解析へと進めている (A03 郷 康広氏，重信 秀治氏との共同研究) ．
上記に加え，巣の防衛行動を解析し，個体間には防衛行動をとる時間や頻度に大きなばらつきがあることを見出した．巣の防衛はコロニー存続に必須の行動であるため，防衛を行わない個体は，必須の行動に欠員が出たときのリザーブとしての役目をしていると考えられた．
