内殻角度分解光電子線二色性による多極子活性局在4f電子構造の温度依存性解明

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

強相関希土類化合物において、結晶場分裂によって生じ局在多極子の起源となりうる異方的4f電荷分布=軌道対称性の直接的な決定は実験的に従来困難だったところ、我々は内殻”角度分解”光電子線二色性から直接的な決定が可能であることを発見した。本研究ではこれまでの研究を加速させ、当該年度にはPrBe13の基底一重項(Γ1)のみならず、温度変化測定から第一励起状態がΓ4対称性を有することに決定成功した。これについては、査読付き国際会議論文として発表すると、従来励起状態対称性決定に必須と思われていた強磁場印加を必要とせず、単純に光電子スペクトル二色性の温度変化測定だけで決定可能であり新たな実験手法開発という評価を得た。但し、線二色性がより顕著に生じうるPr 4d内殻準位はBe 1s準位とも近接しているため、Pr 4d内殻光電子線二色性を定量的に評価することは難しく、定性的にΓ1対称性であることと矛盾しない結果を得るというところにとどまる。また、立方晶充填スクッテルダイトPrFe4P12においては、非秩序相において基底状態が擬四重縮退した状態にあることを示唆する結果を得た。これについてはさらに慎重な検討が必要ではあるが、擬四重縮退した状態から「隠れた秩序」が生じている可能性を示している。
正方晶SmPt2Si2においても内殻光電子線二色性測定をSm 3d内殻準位に対して行い、バルクではSm2+が無視できることに加え明確な線二色性を得た。これを解析すると、Jz = ±5/2の寄与が明らかに強く、少なくとも予想の一つである純粋なJz = ±3/2状態とは欠けなはなれていることがわかった。但し、この基底状態のより精密な決定にはさらに実験が必要と思われる。
