Outline of Annual Research Achievements

低次元量子スピン系において、従来の長距離秩序と量子スピン液体の中間ともいうべき量子スピンネマティック相が注目されている。とくに強磁性相互作用と反強磁性相互作用が競合する、一次元フラストレーション系において、スピン液晶、すなわちスピンネマティック相が実現することが、密度行列繰り込み群の計算により理論的に予測され、その候補物質の強磁場磁化過程で、この相と期待される新相が発見されたことから、実験・理論両面から精力的に研究されている。本研究では、多極子系の物理を主題とする当該新学術領域に貢献すべく、スピンの四極子秩序に相当するスピンネマティック相の理論的予測と検証実験の提案を目的として、低次元量子スピン系を中心に、数値対角化と有限サイズスケーリングの手法を適用して、理論的研究を進めた。その結果、容易軸型のシングル・イオン異方性を持つスピン1のスピンラダー系の磁化過程において、スピンネマティック相が実現することを理論予測することに成功した。この系では、上述のフラストレーション系と違って、低磁場でも実現することから、候補物質が見つかりさえすれば、検証実験は比較的容易に実施できるメリットがある。また、リング交換相互作用が働く3本鎖スピンチューブ系の基底状態において、スピンネマティック相が実現することも、理論的に判明した。3本鎖スピンチューブ系には、具体的な候補物質がいくつか知られており、検証実験を検討している段階である。この他にも複数のフラストレーション系において、新奇な量子相の理論的発見に成功している。これらの成果は、強相関電子系の国際会議等で発表するとともに、論文として出版した。また、2020年3月のアメリカ物理学会マーチミーティングで発表する予定であったが、新型コロナウイルス感染拡大の問題が起き、会議が中止となったため、航空券のキャンセル料を計上することとなった。
