隕石の超高精度Mo同位体分析による地球の水の起源に関する研究

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

コンドライト隕石および鉄隕石の高精度Mo同位体分析を行い、その結果をAstrophys. J.に公表した(Yokoyama et al., 2019)。昨年度報告したように、高圧分解装置(DAB-2)の分解にはMo汚染の問題があり、Mo同位体測定には適さないことがわかっている。そこで、分析対象としてプレソーラー粒子を含まない炭素質コンドライト(CK4-5)を選択し、DAB-2を使わずに試料の分解を行った。表面電離型質量分析計でMo同位体組成を測定したところ、炭素質コンドライトおよびIVB鉄隕石(CCグループ)とその他の隕石(NCグループ)に明確なMo同位体二分性が確認され、更にCCグループ内、NCグループ内にMo同位体組成変動があることが判明した。一部の鉄隕石には宇宙線照射によるMo同位体組成の変化が見られたが、これら鉄隕石の高精度Os同位体分析を行うことにより、宇宙線照射の影響を補正することに成功した。
同位体変動の原因を解析したところ、CCグループ内のMo同位体組成変動は小惑星帯外側におけるs-核種の不均質分布によって引き起こされたことが分かった。一方、NCグループ内のMo同位体組成変動は、1) 原始太陽系星雲で一部のプレソーラー粒子が熱過程によって選択的に破壊され、ガスとして分離したか、あるいは2) NCコンドライトのマトリクス存在度とFe-Ni合金存在度が隕石種ごとに異なることが原因と考えられる。
これまでの分析から、全ての隕石と比較して地球が最も低いμ94Mo・μ95Mo値を持つことが明らかになった。レイトベニアによって地球の水を説明する場合、地球よりも低いμ94Mo・μ95Moを持つ物質が必要になるが、そのような隕石を見つけることはできなかった。今後は原始地球の組成を保持しうる試料として、太古代岩石試料や月試料のMo同位体分析を行う必要があることが分かった。
