Outline of Annual Research Achievements

液晶と結晶のさらに中間的な状態である「ソフトクリスタル」の概念を導入し、液晶の柔軟さと運動性を担保したまま「結晶化」することにより、オングストロームオーダーの精緻な配向・配列秩序と、自己組織化によるメートルオーダーの分子配列秩序を両立した「ソフトクリスタル」の実現を目指して、液晶生フタロシアニン同族体を用いて下記の成果を得た。（１）バーコート法を用いて分子の一軸配向制御を試みた。液晶性を示すフタロシアニン誘導体CnPcH2の溶液状態からバーコート法により塗布することにより分子パッキング方向が大面積で一様に揃った薄膜単結晶を作製した。特に、種結晶を用いることにより、結晶多形の制御に成功した。さらに、液晶性を示すπ共役高分子poly(2,5-bis(3-hexadecylthiophen-2-yl)thieno[3,2-b]thiophene) (PBTTT-C16)を同様のバーコート法で成膜することにより一様配向を実現するとともに、バー掃引速度に依存して高分子主鎖の配向方向が異なることを明らかにし、掃引速度が成膜時の高分子主鎖の凝集挙動に影響を及ぼすことを示した。（２）長鎖アルキル置換基を８本含むフタロシアニンは、デバイスの熱安定性を考えた場合や、フラーレンなどと組み合わせたドナー-アクセプター型太陽電池への応用を考えた場合に好ましくないと考えられる。そこで、ter-butyl置換基を有するフタロシアニンに着目し、バーコート法により配向薄膜の実現を試みた。その結果、極めて配向性の高い分子薄膜を実現することに成功した。作製した薄膜の偏光吸収測定を行ったところ、二色性比50の極めて高い配向性を有していることが明らかとなった。また、X線回折測定の結果から、コアのフタロシアニン分子面がバー掃引方向に対して垂直であり、しかも基板に対しても垂直に配列していることが明らかとなった。
