Outline of Annual Research Achievements

類人猿を対象にした研究では、類人猿の意図理解に関して、特に顕著な成果を上げた。これまでの研究から、類人猿が、予期的な注視を指標にした課題において、動画の中で、他者（動画の中の役者）が現実とは異なる誤った知識を抱いている（誤信念をもつ）状況においても、他者の行動の向かう先を予測的に注視することが示されている。本研究では、その心的メカニズムに関してさらに調査を進めた。先行研究では、類人猿が他者の意図理解にもとづいて課題を解決したのか（心の理論）、他者が最後に見た場所を再訪する、というような、特定の「行動ルール」にもとづいて課題を解決したのか、明らかではなかった。この「行動ルール」仮説を検証するために、本研究では、類人猿が、他者が同一の行動をしている状況においても、自己の経験に照らし合わせて、他者の行動の予測のやり方を変化させるか調べた。課題では、まず類人猿は近くで見ると透けて見えるトリック衝立と、近くで見ても透けて見えない普通の衝立のどちらかを経験した。２つの衝立は遠目から見ると同じに見える。その後、類人猿は動画を見た。動画では、類人猿が経験した衝立と同じ見た目の衝立の後ろに役者が隠れる様子が映され、その目の前では、隠されたオブジェクトが移動した。動画を見た類人猿は、トリック衝立を経験した場合は、役者がそのイベントを見たかのように役者の行動を予測し、普通の衝立を経験した場合は、役者がそのイベントをみなかったかのように役者の行動を予測した。したがって、予期的な注視を指標にした課題において「行動ルール」仮説は成立しないことが示された。
カラスを対象にした研究では、複数台の赤外線カメラをそなえたモーショントラッキングルームを作成し、軽量のトラッカーボールをカラスの頭の上に乗せたときに、頭の動きを３次元的に撮影することに成功した。今後、同システムを用いて、視線の研究を開始する
