Outline of Annual Research Achievements

光合成は太陽光エネルギーを使って化学エネルギーを作り出している。光合成の最初の化学反応は、光化学系II(PSII)で起こる水分解反応である。本反応は自然界のエネルギー源として重要な仕組みであるのみならず、人工光合成系を創生していくためにも極めて重要である。
本研究では、自然系で得られた知見を人工光合成系に応用し、対応関係や模倣、分子モデリングすることで、人工光合成の進展に理論研究から寄与する。人工光合成とは分子錯体と半導体(固体)表面を対象にする。
I4LEC新学術領域の班間連携を実施し、人工光合成系での水分解酸素生成反応機構について理論解析を実施した。現在まだ論文出版に至っていないため、連携研究内容を報告することができないが、人工系での律速反応過程を同定することができた。また、実験結果と対応する理論解析結果を得ることができた。人工系は自然系と異なる反応機構を取っていることがわかった。そのため、人工触媒は高耐性(TON)、高効率(TOF)、低コスト(低過電圧)に必要な改善の余地が十分に残されていることが明らかになった。なるべく早く論文発表できるように取り組む。
自然系の理論解析については、大規模QM/MMモデルを用いて、全てのS状態のMnクラスターの構造解析を実施した。その結果、岡山グループとバークレーグループのSFX結果をMn-Mn, Mn-Ca距離で良く再現されることを明らかにした。しかしながら、O6位置(O5-O6距離)については、再現が難しく、さらなる検討(電子状態、プロトン化状態、混合状態)が必要となることを示した。PSII以外にもラジカル機構が提唱されている酸化酵素で反応機構の理論解析を実施した。その結果、非ラジカル機構を取ることを初めて明らかにした。この結果はPSIIのCBS機構とよく類似することを明らかにした。
