Outline of Research at the Start

トポロジカル材料においてはバルク境界対応が重要であり、例えば高次トポロジカル絶縁体では、3次元結晶の、1次元的な縁に沿い金属状態が現れ、その現れ方には結晶の構成要素、つまり平面や空間を充填する構成要素(タイル)の自由度が重要であることが明らかになりつつある。例えば2次元結晶に対応する平面充填の方法は93通りあり、本研究ではタイリングの違いがトポロジカル相のバルク境界対応にどのように表れるか、実際の物質でどう実現されるかを解明する。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

前年度の2次元系での結果を踏まえて、本年度は3次元の高次トポロジカル絶縁体(obstructed topological insulator)について、点群対称性があるときの量子化コーナー電荷と量子化ヒンジ電荷密度の表式を導出した。ここでは最も簡単な立方対称空間群であるP432を例に、頂点推移的(全ての頂点が対称性で等価)な多面体の結晶形状5種に対して計算を行った。この中には立方体や正八面体が含まれている。この計算においては、電子や原子核の位置をワイコフ位置で分類して、それらを用いたコーナー電荷の表式を導出した。さらにこれを電子バンド構造の高対称点での既約表現とウィルソンループとで書き換えた表式も得た。さらに表面再構成等、表面での原子核の位置のずれや電子状態の変調を考慮してもこの結果が保たれることも示した。この結果は一般性のあるものであり、実際の物質に対しても成立するため、今後他の空間群・他の結晶形状への応用や、物質探索などへと展開していくことが期待される。
また並行して、映進対称性に守られたトポロジカル結晶絶縁相の研究を進めた。この相はフォトニック結晶での実現例の提案が先行研究でなされているが、その起源は明らかではなかった。本研究において、空間反転対称性の下ではこの相が高対称点での既約表現のみで表されることや、今考えている立方対称なフォトニック結晶の下では、磁性の導入でバンドギャップを開けると必ずトポロジカル結晶絶縁体相になることを理論的に示した。さらにこれを用いてトポロジカル結晶絶縁相にあるフォトニック結晶の設計指針を示した。
さらに、ノーダルラインとワイル点が共存するトポロジカル半金属において、その両者に起因するトポロジカル表面状態の協奏現象について、モデル計算および解析計算で示した。特に表面フェルミアークがノーダルラインの射影に接するようになることを示した。
